NOTES: Georgia representatives of national and local organizations will join in with thousands around the country in support of U.S. House Bill 676 (HR676), which aims to establish an American-style national health insurance program by expanding the highly successful Medicare program. Representative Bob Holmes, Representative Pat Gardner, Dr. Bill Elsea (former Fulton County Health Commissioner), Larissa Thomas (President of H-STAT), and others will be on hand.
HR 676, the United States National Health Insurance Act, was introduced by Congressman John Conyers and has been endorsed by Georgia Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and seventy-one other congressional representatives. In 2006 Georgia legislative session, Representatives Stephanie Stuckey, Pat Gardner, and Mary Margaret Oliver introduced resolution in support of HR 676. State Representative Bob Holmes, long time supporter and author of proposed single-payer legislation for Georgia says, "Recent studies have shown that single payer health insurance is fiscally responsible, quite feasible, and provides a real basis for solving many of our health care problems."
